A wealthy and powerful rake of the English ton, Simon Cynster has known Portia Ashford, equally wealthy and well-educated, since they were children. By sheer chance, he decides it's time to find a wife at the same time that she decides she wants children and must find a husband. Knowing each other so well is both a blessing and a curse, for when it dawns on Simon that he's in love with Portia, he's well aware that she'll feel challenged by his protectiveness and wary of having her independence curtailed. For her part, Portia feels safe exploring her newly awakened sensuality with Simon, but she’s not at all sure that he'll make a suitable husband. While they're feeling their way through a minefield of turbulent emotions, they're distracted by several unexplained "accidents," and when a member of the weekend house party they’re attending dies, Simon is confronted with the urgent need to keep Portia safe from harm.

This being my first Stephenie Laurens book I was a bit appreensive...I didn't knew what to expect and I didn't knew the members of the Cynster family.
But as soon as I began listening to the audiobook I was completly caught in the story. I've seen a few bad reviews about the book because people have read after they read all the other books...well, I'ver started with this one and it was enjoyable.

Portia Ashford wants to have children but she knows that to have them she needs to get marry...so she wants to learn all she can about men before she chooses someone to marry. So she accepts Simon's offer to help her on the subject of men...But what he really wants is to have her for hinself and to pass her on to someone else...
After the murder of their malicious hostess, Kitty, Portia finds herself at the mercy of the murderer who is set to kill her as well. With the help of Simon they uncover the truth...and as they try to solve the mystery of the murder their friendship evolves to something more powerfull that neither of them can controle...
I thought that it was a pleasant reading.
This year because of my work I thought that I wouldn't be able to visit this year's book fair... But then I managed to go and like always I got lost between books :P

But because I had already bought a few books the month before, I didn't spent too much money.... So, my only acquisitions were at the Saída de Emergência, were it was very difficult to choose a book because they were all good. These were my choises:

And then because they had the offer of one book if you bought two, I choose this one because I had heard good opinions about it:

Because this is book number 1 I guess that if I like it I have to buy the rest of the books :P

Product Description:

All of London is raving about the newly arrived American, Emilia Highhart. She has beauty, charm, wit and a hint of the exotic. Unfortunately, grace is decidedlynot one of her virtues. Staircases, doors, even floors have proven her enemies, often leaving Emilia prostrate and mortified in a pile od muslin. Nevertheless, at her first ball, her dance card soon fills with the names of highly suitable men. But Emilia's eyes are on just one man - the one her aunt points out as the entirely unsuitable Lord Phillip...

In fact, he isn't Lord Phillip. While Phillip, the heir, goes about spending the good family's funds, his identical twin, Devon, the spare, must attend society functions as Lord Phillip - all because of a few blasted minutes' age difference. Soon, both twins are vying for Emilia. And, under the not-so-watchful eye of Lady Palmerston, aunt and chaperone to the young lady, Emilia is unknowingly courted by two different men with the same face! But only one of them is the love of her life...
In this wonderful debut by Maya Rodale, we meet Emila Highhart, who at her father's request travel's to England to stay with her aunt, Lady Palmerston to find a suitable husband.

On her very first ball she meets Devon, who helps her when she falls. They instantly feel an attraction pulling them to each other. Devon, who is disguised as his brother, the heir to the dukedom, Lord Phillip, can't reveal his real identity to Emilia. So she thinks that he is his brother, known to be mean womanizing rake and a very unsuitable suitor for a husband.

But Emilia soon becomes confused by her own feelings...because she doesn't know that the man she loves is in fact another man...And when she finds out the truth Devon has to play the best of him to conquer her before his brother Phillip can destroy their love.

A remarkable, lovely and enjoyable Regency romance. I strongly recommend it.
