For 15 years, Danny has been living with a group of orphan thieves, masquerading as a boy, but now, thanks to one highborn rogue, she has lost the only home she's ever known. Determined to make Jeremy Malory pay for trapping her into stealing back his friend's family heirlooms, Danny coerces Jeremy into giving her a respectable job as his new upstairs maid. Jeremy would rather that she become his mistress, but all he can convince her to do is pretend to be his new romantic interest in order to save him from a marriage-minded heiress. While Jeremy and Danny indulge in their little game of seduction, Danny is recognized by the man who killed her parents and thought he had also done away with their young daughter.

The only book by Johanna Lindsey that I've read was Captive of My Desires and to me it wasn't a very special story...So I was a bit suspicious about this one. So I picked the audiobook to listen at the museum where I used to work.

For years Danny, has lived with a small group of orphan thieves disguised as a boy. Now, after being discovered by Jeremy trying to steal his friend's belongings and losing her place at the group of orphans she wants him to pay for what she lost. So he accepts her in his house to work as a maid althought the feelings he has for her grows within each day and he has the wish to make her his mistress. But Danny surprises him by wishing to get marry and to help other orphans by running an orphanage. She is a not a common heroine.

I thought that it was a sweet romance story but not very special.

Choose: A quick death...or a slow poison...

About to be executed for murder, Yelena is offered an extraordinary reprieve. She'll eat the best meals, have rooms in the palace - and risk assassination by anyone trying to kill the Commander of Ixia.

And so Yelena chooses to become a food taster. But the chief of security, leaving nothing to chance, deliberately feeds her Butterfly's Dust - and only by appearing for her daily antidote will she delay an agonising death from the poison. As Yelena tries to escape her new dilemma, disasters keep mounting. Rebels plot to seize Ixia and Yelena develops magical powers she can't control.

Her life is threatened again and choices must be made. But this time the outcomes aren't so clear...

I found out about this book while I was searching for historical romances. This one didn't seemed to be an usual romance novel. What caught my attention was the cover and the name itself.

As soon as we start reading we are confronted with Yelena, the heroine of the story. Yelena is about to be executed for the murder of Reyad, son of General Brazell, when she is brought with the offer to be the next food taster of the Commander. As soon as she starts training she is poisoned with Butterfly Dust by Valek, a cold-blooded former assassin and now her master, and that's why she needs to take the antidote daily. But as the story intensify we see Yelena learning to become stronger and

Throught out the story we get to know her and how her life at General Brazell's home had been and why did she killed his son.

This book was lent to me by my good friend Whitelady :) who has already read the sequels and because of her review I wasn't sure that if I wanted to read them. But I already have them in ebook because I'm curious about Yelena's journey. And of course about her romance with Valek :) of how it will work out for them.

Well, yesterday I was walking through the shopping center when I stopped in front of the book store...I wasn't planning to buy more books, but I could not resist...They seemed to be calling me...LOL... So I got in and left the store with these three books:

Madeline Hunter : "As regras da Sedução" / "Rules of Seduction" and "Jogos de Sedução" / "Secrets of Surrender"

Laura Lee Guhrke : "Prazeres Proibidos" / "Guilty Pleasures"

The Emerald flew across the seas, carrying the pirate Pagan -- despised by the ton, whose riches he plundered, and beloved by the poor, whose plight was eased by his gifts.

The Marquess of Cainewood vows to hunt down the pirate wretch in revenge for his brother's death. But when Jade, an enchanting vision of rippling red hair and eyes of jewel-green, appears at his door to beg desperately for his protection, the Marquess agrees to keep her safe from the villains who want her dead.

Jade is infuriating, exasperating, and gorgeous; Caine is noble, strong-willed, and powerful. No woman has ever befuddled him so, nor so deeply aroused his desire. But as Jade answers his knowing caresses with an innocent, wild abandon, they are drawn into a web of treachery that will test the very heart of their love!

Well, up untill this moment I didn't knew any Ms. Garwood work so this was a total surprise. Although it had too many political intrigues it become an enjoyable reading. Only after I started reading it I realised that this was a sequel to "The Lion's Lady".

Jade is an intelligent and independent woman who soon in her life began to look out for herself. So it was very funny to watch the way she handled with Caine.

Caine the Marquess of Cainwood is set out to avenge the death of his beloved brother, Colin. He tries to prepare a trap for the mysterious pirate, Pagan, whom is known to have killed Colin. And he'll continue to hate Pagan untill he finds out Pagan's real identity.

What Cane doesn't know is that his brother, Colin, it's dead. He's hidden untill it's found who really wanted to kill him and Jade's brother. This was a very enjoable listening. I was captivated by Jade and Caines's story. However, it was not very impressive book.

Because of the exames of my english course I haven't been able to come here blog some of my reviews. But now that I'm free :D I would like to propose all of you to tell me which is you favourite book of all the books you had read up until now

I'll start by telling you which is my favourite.

Well, if I had to choose one book it would definitely be Devil in Winter written by Lisa Kleypas. I just loved the plot and the characters. Lisa Kleypas knows how to write a good novel. I just loved Sebastian's character. He's a devil :P

Now, can you choose one of all the books you have read and tell me about it?

Setting: England, 1835
Sensuality: 8

A wealthy and powerful rake of the English ton, Simon Cynster has known Portia Ashford, equally wealthy and well-educated, since they were children. By sheer chance, he decides it's time to find a wife at the same time that she decides she wants children and must find a husband. Knowing each other so well is both a blessing and a curse, for when it dawns on Simon that he's in love with Portia, he's well aware that she'll feel challenged by his protectiveness and wary of having her independence curtailed. For her part, Portia feels safe exploring her newly awakened sensuality with Simon, but she’s not at all sure that he'll make a suitable husband. While they're feeling their way through a minefield of turbulent emotions, they're distracted by several unexplained "accidents," and when a member of the weekend house party they’re attending dies, Simon is confronted with the urgent need to keep Portia safe from harm.

This being my first Stephenie Laurens book I was a bit appreensive...I didn't knew what to expect and I didn't knew the members of the Cynster family.
But as soon as I began listening to the audiobook I was completly caught in the story. I've seen a few bad reviews about the book because people have read after they read all the other books...well, I'ver started with this one and it was enjoyable.

Portia Ashford wants to have children but she knows that to have them she needs to get marry...so she wants to learn all she can about men before she chooses someone to marry. So she accepts Simon's offer to help her on the subject of men...But what he really wants is to have her for hinself and to pass her on to someone else...
After the murder of their malicious hostess, Kitty, Portia finds herself at the mercy of the murderer who is set to kill her as well. With the help of Simon they uncover the truth...and as they try to solve the mystery of the murder their friendship evolves to something more powerfull that neither of them can controle...
I thought that it was a pleasant reading.
This year because of my work I thought that I wouldn't be able to visit this year's book fair... But then I managed to go and like always I got lost between books :P

But because I had already bought a few books the month before, I didn't spent too much money.... So, my only acquisitions were at the Saída de Emergência, were it was very difficult to choose a book because they were all good. These were my choises:

And then because they had the offer of one book if you bought two, I choose this one because I had heard good opinions about it:

Because this is book number 1 I guess that if I like it I have to buy the rest of the books :P

Product Description:

All of London is raving about the newly arrived American, Emilia Highhart. She has beauty, charm, wit and a hint of the exotic. Unfortunately, grace is decidedlynot one of her virtues. Staircases, doors, even floors have proven her enemies, often leaving Emilia prostrate and mortified in a pile od muslin. Nevertheless, at her first ball, her dance card soon fills with the names of highly suitable men. But Emilia's eyes are on just one man - the one her aunt points out as the entirely unsuitable Lord Phillip...

In fact, he isn't Lord Phillip. While Phillip, the heir, goes about spending the good family's funds, his identical twin, Devon, the spare, must attend society functions as Lord Phillip - all because of a few blasted minutes' age difference. Soon, both twins are vying for Emilia. And, under the not-so-watchful eye of Lady Palmerston, aunt and chaperone to the young lady, Emilia is unknowingly courted by two different men with the same face! But only one of them is the love of her life...
In this wonderful debut by Maya Rodale, we meet Emila Highhart, who at her father's request travel's to England to stay with her aunt, Lady Palmerston to find a suitable husband.

On her very first ball she meets Devon, who helps her when she falls. They instantly feel an attraction pulling them to each other. Devon, who is disguised as his brother, the heir to the dukedom, Lord Phillip, can't reveal his real identity to Emilia. So she thinks that he is his brother, known to be mean womanizing rake and a very unsuitable suitor for a husband.

But Emilia soon becomes confused by her own feelings...because she doesn't know that the man she loves is in fact another man...And when she finds out the truth Devon has to play the best of him to conquer her before his brother Phillip can destroy their love.

A remarkable, lovely and enjoyable Regency romance. I strongly recommend it.

******

First of all, when I ended "Devil in Winter" I decided not to read the last of the Wallflower Quartet because at the time I thought that it wasn't worth it...I was sooooo wrong...I wasn't expecting to like this books as much as I did.

The story starts with Daisy being confronted by her father for the fact that until that very moment she hadn't found a proper husband. Then, he gives her an ultimatum: she had to find a husband or he was going to marry her off with the person he trusted the most, his employee Matthew Swift. And Matthew was someone that Daisy hated so it could mean that this was going to be a very hard challenge...Matthew had changed since the last time Daisy saw him and now she has to deal with the attraction she feels for him...

On the other hand, Matthew didn't wanted to marry Daisy although he was in love with her ever since he met her. But he was keeping a secret about himself and because of it he didn't wanted to hurt Daisy by involving her in his mystery life.

But the harder they try to stay apart of each other the more they end up together...and their love and respect for each other grows.

This is a beautiful, adorable story and a good ending to the Wallflower series.

Rule #1: Never get involved with someone who won't be there for you when the sun comes up.

Once bitten, twice shy, and sexy PI Jackie Morrisey wasn't going there again. Vincent Argeneau may be the hottest guy she's ever met, living or dead, but she's here to stop a killer from turning this vampire into dust, not to jump into bed with him.

Rule #2: Never kiss a vampire . . . it can be a pain in the neck.

Okay, so Vincent's had four hundred years to perfect his kissing skills, and he does look rather tempting when he runs around the house shirtless. He's also charming, protective . . . did we mention he can kiss? Jackie needs to be on her guard, or else she'll have to come up with a new rule: If you're going to fall in love with a vampire, make sure it's a bite to remember.

******

Well, I've always liked vampire stories. When I began my aventure through Bookmooch I was caught in new stories, like this one.

This is not only about the romance between the main characthers but also about a solving crime. The Argeneau family bring's us a new kind of stories about vampires. I didn't even knew that vampires could eat!

We meet Private Investigator, Jackie Morrisey who was hired by Vincent's cousin to protect him because there was someone who was trying to kill the sexy Vincent. After having been seduced and betrayed by a vampire when she was younger Jackie didn't felt so ar ease working with Vincente, specially when she has attracted to him.

Vincent wasn't very happy at the beggining to work with Jackie because she wasn't a vampire ans specially because she was a woman. But the real reason was that he was attracted to her. She makes feel things, wish for things that he tought that weren't possible...

And then he finds out that Jackie is his soul mate...and then she almost dies saving his life...

Book Description:

Lysette buried her face against Max's throat. "But he's going to take me away. Don't let him, don't -- "
"You're not going anywhere," Max interrupted. "Calm yourself, Lysette. It's not good for you to become excited." His possessiveness made her strangely giddy. As far as he was concerned, she was his, and no one was going to take her away from him.
Max stared at Etienne. His voice was soft, but it contained a note that chilled Lysette's blood. "If you so much as disarrange a hair on her head, I'll tear you apart."
Lysette couldn't believe it, but she didn't care about her ruined reputation. The only thing that mattered was that she wouldn't have to marry Etienne.

*********

I must say that I didn't expected this story to be so good. It really keeps you reading (or listening).

The story is very simple, Lysette Kersaint is running from her stepfather who wants to marry her with a man she despises, Etienne Sagesse. Then she meets Maximilien Vallerand, a notorious rake and widower who is rumored to have kliied his wife. In Max's home she finds protection against her stepfather and Etienne. She knows that Maximillien is only helping her because Etinne is his sworn enemy for having had an affair with and murdering Max's wife, Corrine. But while Max's plan is to revenge for what had happened he finds himself caring for Lysette despite not wanting. Naturally they end up falling in love for each other is this steamy romance.

But the real mystery is that who had really murdered Corinne, while everyone during all those years thought that it ahd been Max, is only reavealed in the end and it's a shocking revelation...

If you are looking for a VERY STEAMY romance this is the one for you.

Growing up with four unruly brothers has made Freyja Bedwyn far bolder than most society ladies. From feisty manner to long, tumbling hair, Lady Freyja is pure fire, a woman who seeks both adventure and freedom.

For two people determined to be free, it's the perfect plan…until passion blindsides them both. For as Joshua sets out to achieve his complete seduction of Freyja, a woman who has sworn off love is in danger of losing the one thing she never expected to give again: her heart…

*********

A Summer to Remember introduced the saga of the Bedwyn family... Now here we have the story of Freyja, who is recovering from a broken heart caused by Kit Butler, from A Summer to Remember. This was the first book by Ms. Balogh that I have read and I wasn't disappointed.

The story really flows well...Staying a night at an inn before arriving to Bath where she is going to stay with friends until after festivities surrounding the birth of Kit Butler's baby, Freyja's room is suddenly invaded by Joshua Moore, Marquess of Hallmere. He is running and in need for a place to hide...But before he leaves her room he steal's her a kiss...

Then, in Bath Freyja soon realises who he really is...But despite of evil things that she says about him, she knows that he is the most interesting and enjoyable company that she has encountered in Bath.

Suddenly, because of his aunt wishes to wed him to her daugther, Freyja finds herself involved on a fake betrothal to save Josh. But what starts to be just a temporary situation soon becomes another thing. Could it be that they found love?

This was a delightful story with a funny, lovely couple.

Setting: Regency England
Sensuality: 8

Elizabeth Hotchkiss needs to marry a wealthy man, and fast. The oldest child of four well-bred orphans, she's managed to keep the wolf from their door for years, but she's running out of options. The only marriage prospect in sight is her landlord, Squire Nevins, but his lecherous gaze makes Elizabeth's skin crawl. So when she discovers the book How to Marry A Marquis in her employer's library, she impulsively stuffs it into her reticule and takes it home. Encouraged by her insistent sister, Elizabeth reluctantly agrees to learn the book's rules well enough to catch a monied husband. But first, she must find a man to practice her wiles on. Enter James Sidwell, the Marquis of Riverdale. Posing as the new estate manager per his beloved Aunt Danbury's instructions, he just happens to arrive at the Danbury estate on the very day that Elizabeth discovers the book. Is it too coincidental that James's Aunt Danbury needs his assistance in catching a blackmailer at the precise moment that Elizabeth needs a guinea pig? Perhaps, but neither Elizabeth nor James have reason to suspect that they're being lovingly maneuvered.

James begins to search for a blackmailer, and Elizabeth is high on his list of suspects. While purposely spending time with her to explore her guilt or innocence, however, he's irresistibly drawn to her beauty and kindness as well as her practicality and sharp tongue. And when he learns that she's practicing to entice a husband, he can't resist offering to tutor her in courtship. Before long, the two realize their growing feelings for each other. But the course of true love never did run smoothly, and the lovers encounter a few obstacles along the way. Will the evil Squire Nevins easily give up his designs on Elizabeth and her sisters? What about the nefarious blackmailer? And how will Elizabeth react if she discovers that James is not who he pretends to be?

*****

This was a very hilarious book...once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. it was an emotional rollercoaster.
The way the book showed up to Elizabeth after she had decided that she needed to get marry was brilliant. Neither Elizabeth or James realized what was really behind the blackmail and why James aunt, Mrs Danbury was acting so strangely.
Although this book was not one of my favourites by Julia Quinn, it was delightful story. It really made me laugh a lot. And Ms Danbury is a unique character, very eccentric and hiliariously sarcastic. I loved the fact that Ms. Quinn added her in books about the Bridgerton family.

Product Description:

The heartwarming and unforgettable story of a family in the making and the wondrously neurotic dog who taught them what really matters in life.

John and Jenny were just beginning their life together. They were young and in love, with a perfect little house and not a care in the world. Then they brought home Marley, a wiggly yellow furball of a puppy. Life would never be the same.

Marley quickly grew into a barreling, ninety-seven-pound streamroller of a Labrador retriever, a dog like no other. He crashed through screen doors, gouged through drywall, flung drool on guests, stole women's undergarments, and ate nearly everything he could get his mouth around, including couches and fine jewelry. Obedience school did no good—Marley was expelled. Neither did the tranquilizers the veterinarian prescribed for him with the admonishment, ""Don't hesitate to use these.""

And yet Marley's heart was pure. Just as he joyfully refused any limits on his behavior, his love and loyalty were boundless, too. Marley shared the couple's joy at their first pregnancy, and their heartbreak over the miscarriage. He was there when babies finally arrived and when the screams of a seventeen-year-old stabbing victim pierced the night. Marley shut down a public beach and managed to land a role in a feature-length movie, always winning hearts as he made a mess of things. Through it all, he remained steadfast, a model of devotion, even when his family was at its wit's end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms.

Is it possible for humans to discover the key to happiness through a bigger-than-life, bad-boy dog? Just ask the Grogans...

******

This book was lent by a good friend of mine, who thought that I, being a dogs person, would enjoy reading it. Well, she wasn't wrong... I absolutely loved it!! I laughed and cried with all the "accidents" that Marley caused. He was a very special dog.

This story was not only about Marley. It was also about a family, of the way they had grown together and how they go through everything together. It was a joy reading it. It was like a rollercoaster of emotions.

It was a hilarious and touching story. After reading it I called my dog and gave him a big hug...

Emmaline Dove has been the perfect secretary for publisher Harrison Marlowe. Keeping the rakish viscount's professional and personal lives running smoothly is challenging, but Emma hopes that, some day, working for Harry will lead to getting her own book published. But so far Harry has rejected Emma's literary efforts, claiming "etiquette books don't sell." When Emma discovers Harrison didn't even bother reading her work, she snaps. Resigning her position, Emma sets out to find someone who will appreciate both her and her writing.

******
After having read "Guilty Pleasures" I was a bit anxious to start reading this one.
The starts starts with our heroine, Emma Dove resigning her post of secretary of the drop-dead-gougeous publisher Harry Marlowe. She decided to do so because he wasn't willing to publish any of her books. So, she went to ask to one of his competitors for a post in his journal. As soon as she start writing everyone started to comment and follow her advises.
Then, Harry bought his competitor newspaper... Emma and Harry thought that it would be difficult working together because of Harry's opinion about her kind of work. But as they started to get along, Harry discovered that Emma was the only woman that could make him happy.
Having read her previously books, to me, this one didn't looked to be as breathtaking as the others. It was a very simple story of two people who had knon eacther for years but after some life changes they had began to feel more than a friendship for each other.

Anthony thinks that his capable employee knows all there is to know about antiquities, but when his sister decides to turn the plain young woman in gold-rimmed glasses into an enticing beauty, he declares the task to be impossible. Daphne is devastated when she overhears ... and determined to prove him wrong. Now a vibrant and delectable Daphne has emerged from her shell, and the tables are turned. Will Anthony see that the woman of his dreams has been right there all along?

This is second book by Ms. Guhrke that I read and I absolutly loved it. It's a fascinating, well written love story.
After our heroine, Daphne got her heart broken by Anthony, she decides that it's time to move on. So, she tells him that she wants to resign because she doesn't want to continue to work for him simply by the fact that she doesn't like him...
But Anthony isn't willing to let his best employee go away so he begins his campaign to charm her and make wanting to continue to work for him.
While doing it, he starts to see her as a beautiful woman. Being captivated by her, he starts to court her in a very original way, by using the language of flowers. This is a very intereting subject and it was wonderful to see how it all ended. This is definitely a book to keep .

Once, he spurned the woman he loved. The Earl of Wynwood was far too reckless to handle a sophisticated woman like Viviana Alessandri. And the beautiful opera singer was far too famous to make a suitable wife for Wynwood.

Twice, she wagered with her heart. Crushed by Wynwood's refusal to marry, Viviana offered her hand to another, a wealthy count. But fate has a way of playing with lovers' hearts -- and passion has a way of setting them on fire.

Two little lies tore them apart. But now, at a gala affair celebrating Wynwood's recent betrothal, Viviana will get one last chance to win back his love...again...and again.

This was the first book by Liz Carlyle that I read and I must confess that it exceeded my expectations...
This is the second story of a trilogy right after One Little Sin. In this book we have Quin, the Earl of Wynwood and Viviana Alessandri, an Italian opera singer. After a painfull end of their love affair due to the fact that Quin didn't wanted to marry with her, Viviana Alessandri return to Italy to be with her father and to marry with someone else. Because of Quin's rejection she didn't told him that she was carrying his child and she married with another man. But her husband was a cruel and brutal man. Viviana wasn't happy with him. After his death, she decides to go back to England to help her father her father to help create a new opera. And of course she meets Quin again.
9 years later the passion they feel for each other is still there, although they try to denied it, and something even more powerful than a mere attraction blowms. In my opinion this is a very enjoyable, emotional, breathtaking book.
